| This will be the
sixth Learn Italy study holiday in Florence. Usually visitors
to this city concentrate on the easel paintings and sculpture
for which its galleries are justly famous - and which are familiar
to anyone who knows the city at all, or indeed anyone interested
in the history of art. The focus of this visit, however, will
be the city's buildings, their structure and their decorative
elements, and the magnificent and unique architectural history
which they make visible. The changes in attitude and understanding
which we call the Florentine Renaissance were expressed as much
through the creation of its new palaces and churches as through
its fine art. |
| |
| We will be offering a mixture
of group visits during the day and informal introductory lectures
in the evening. All the places we will visit are within easy
walking distance of our hotel, which is in one of Florence's
most beautiful squares. |

| |
| April in Tuscany should be
delightful - warm enough to enjoy looking at buildings from
the outside, but avoiding the summer heat - and the student
throngs that will arrive later in the year. Many of the sites
on our itinerary are away from the beaten track of tourist visits,
so we should be able to enjoy them in peace. |

| The tutor to accompany this
study week and introduce Florentine art and architecture will
be Patrick Doorly. Tour organiser will be Martin Gray. |
