25-31 January 2005

This will be our second study week in out-of-season Florence, with Alice Foster as tutor. We will be using the same central hotel, which proved a popular choice in 2003, and the same mixture of group visits during the day and informal introductory lectures in the evening. There will be time to see Florence's most celebrated treasures, in galleries like the Uffizi and Bargello, as well as less well-known masterpieces in churches and palaces. All these places are within easy walking distance of our hotel, which is in one of Florence's most beautiful squares.

January in Tuscany is unpredictable: it may be very cold, but it can also be dry and bright. What is certain is that we will avoid the shuffling throngs of tourists who crowd the art galleries throughout most of the year. This is a time when it is possible to enjoy in tranquillity some of the most famous pictures and statues in western art.

There are plenty of restaurants and cafes of all kinds in central Florence. As on other Learn Italy holidays, a number of group meals will be organised.

Guideline prices, excluding flights:
Per person, single use of double room:   £805
Per person, sharing a double room:   £710

These prices include:
coach travel between the Cotswolds and Oxford and a London airport and return (if appropriate)
coach travel or similar between an Italian airport and Florence
six nights accommodation with breakfast in a three-star hotel
paid and timed entry to art galleries, preceded by a lecture illustrated with slides

These prices do not include the flight to Italy. Based on current prices, it should be possible to arrange flights for about £175. As usual a booking will be made for the group by Italia nel Mondo, an ABTA and ATOL registered travel agent.
